Alis Rocha Obituary

Alis "Sissy" M. (Holmberg) Rocha, 52, a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and friend to many, passed away on February 28, 2024, in Salem, Ohio.

She was born on August 23, 1971, in Wichita, Kansas, to the late James and Kay (Ling) Holmberg.

Sissy graduated from Butterfield-Odin High School in Butterfield Minnesota before marrying her best friend Pablo Rocha in 1990. They started their family together shortly after (1991) with the birth of their daughter Ana M. Rocha in Mountain Lake, MN later moving to Windom, MN where Sissy worked as a health aide caring for those with disabilities and Alzheimer's disease for most of her life. After moving and returning to Minnesota, Sissy gave birth to her second daughter, Kay’lee M. Rocha, after years of trying to conceive in 2010. In 2013, the family moved to Salem, Ohio where she began to grow her roots and create more long lasting friendships.

In addition to being an incredibly dedicated caregiver professionally she also found joy spending time with friends, family, shopping, and traveling. Sissy especially enjoyed annual trips to Florida visiting Orlando and Disney World, and the local beaches. She also loved taking trips back to South Dakota or Minnesota where she could visit friends and family, especially her longtime friend Kelly Nelson and family, who meant so much to her.

Her faith was important to her as well, joining Greenford Christian Church just a few years ago, which brought great comfort and happiness to her. Especially during the difficult times, like when she received the devastating diagnosis of Stage IV Endometrial Cancer that had spread to her brain in December 2023. Despite this news Sissy remained strong throughout treatment even as she moved between nursing homes and rehab centers. She ultimately found hospice care through Aultman Hospital at Auburn Skilled Nursing & Rehab Center, where she peacefully passed away surrounded by loved ones knowing how deeply cherished she truly was.

Sissy is survived by her loving husband Pablo Rocha, her daughters Ana and Kay'lee Rocha; son-in-law Erik Zamora; godchildren Lincy Smith, Jacob Smith, and Isaiah Smith; siblings Jim (Sue Ellen) Holmberg, Susan Stanton, Jenny (Neville) Smith, Kelly (Scott) Nelson, Kempsie (Mike) D'Andre, and Sarah (Kenny) Whiteleather; grandchildren Brenden, Cashton, and Divina Zamora-Rocha; her aunt Patricia (Butch) Dunnick, uncle Satoshi Morimoto; nieces and nephews Lisa (Chris) Spidel, Dylan Markus, Micah Holmberg, Noah Holmberg, Aiden Holmberg, Brittany Stanton, Nick Stanton, Travis Stanton, Desirae (Alex) Kukert; and cousins Barb Daffner, Tony Dunnick, Isaac Dunnick, Carmelita Arana-Cifuentes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Kenny and Kevin Christenson, grandparents Fritz and Sue Ling, aunt Mary Dunn, uncle Donald Ling, and cousin Fred Dunnick.

May we all remember Sissy's warmth, love, laughter, strength, resilience, compassion, generosity, and spirit that touched so many lives.  Forevermore may you rest peacefully now reunited once again with your dear father and mother watching over us all. Until we meet again someday…
