Obituary

Andrew Richard Shasteen 21, of Salem, died Thursday in the Emergency Room of St. Elizabeth Medical Center (Main Campus) Youngstown. He was born on January 1, 1993 in Akron, Ohio, the son of Christina L. Castles-Helman and Ross A. Shasteen. Andrew was a very unique and special person. He may have come into the world with problems, he did not let that stop him. He enjoyed bringing happiness to all those he crossed paths with. He will be remembered by his bizarre sense of humor and the many shirts and shoes that he wore to make people think and laugh. Andrew was amazing at what he could do, but more so what he taught others. A member of the (H & H) Hero and Halos, participated in wheelchair soccer in TOPPS in Cortland, Challenger Baseball League in Boardman, Special Olympics in Track, bowling, getting the microphone and sing his heart out to music, sitting in the back of the car driving with the steering wheel, and riding on his special adapted bicycle. He was in the Super Kids Soap Box Derby (Quakertown) when it was in Columbiana and in Salem, participated in 5K runs for H & H and did one using his walker, he was in the IR4 running group with his buddy Jenny Kovacic, a Buddy Ambassador, and taught firefighter safety awareness when helping a special needs person. He was featured in the June, 2014 issue of Runners World magazine. A member of the Guardian Angles from East Fairfield. He was a graduate of Salem High School and attended Robert Bycroft. In addition to his mother of Salem and father of Lisbon, he is survived by siblings, Michael (Breanna Castro) Shasteen of Salineville, Gregory (Angel) Shasteen of North Carolina, Anna and Samantha Shasteen both of Lisbon, two nieces and a nephew, paternal grandmother Linda (the late Tim) Huffer of Salem, maternal grandparents, William and Alma Castles of Salem, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, hippy soul sister Jennifer Engle. He was preceded in death by his partner in crime Gregory Schwartzhoff. A Celebration of Life Service will be observed to remember Andrew at 8 PM Friday at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. The Rev. Fred Kirchner will be officiating the services. A time of visitation will be held on Friday from 5-8 PM.
