Obituary

Barbara Jean (Johnson) McBride, 91, of Salem, died at 8:22 PM Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Salem Regional Medical Center.

She was born March 15, 1931 in Salem, daughter of Arthur and Edith (Howells) Johnson.

Barbara graduated from Salem High School in 1949. She was a homemaker and enjoyed taking care of her home, attending her flower gardens, and being a seamstress. She and her husband lived life to the fullest exploring trails on their 4-wheeled bicycle that Robert built. They also participated in Model A clubs. They spent their later years traveling to Florida to avoid the cold Ohio winters. Barbara was famously known for her strawberry pies and Waldorf salad that was guaranteed to accompany her to any dinner she attended. She was a very active member of her church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, of Salem, participating in bible study, sewing, and quilting groups. Her hobbies included doing word puzzles, making and selling pillows, and completing coloring books for seniors.

She is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Thomas) O'Brien of Aurora and two sons Jeffrey McBride of Westville and John McBride of Salem, her siblings Arthene Koontz of Rocky River, and Virginia Denson of Houston, Texas. As well as six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her husband Robert Lee McBride, son Robert A. McBride, and grandson Brian McBride.
