Obituary

Carol Krauss of Salem passed away peacefully in her sleep at home during the early morning hours of Monday, February 24th. Born Carol Anne Yost in Akron on August 28, 1929, she was the daughter of Frank L. Yost and Bernice Rinehart Yost.  Their family relocated many times during the Great Depression but Carol later was able to attend the University of Akron and Kent State University to study Art.

Carol moved to Salem in 1949 and was married to Fred Krauss the following year.  A member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Salem, over the years she was a member of the Church Council, taught Sunday school and was an assistant superintendent.  She was last employed at E.D.I. Central where she worked as a Workshop Specialist II for 15 years, retiring in 1993.

During her retirement years she enjoyed the various birds, squirrels, critters and "varmints" that came for daily visits to partake of the morsels she left for them.  Also, there always seemed to be new seedlings, sprouts, batches of ivy, ferns and other greenery scattered throughout her home.

Carol is survived by a son, Ronald of Youngstown and a daughter Constance (John Mittermaier) of Dayton, grandchildren Erik (Angela) and Philip (Emily) Krauss, Jason (Amanda Langager) Mittermaier and Chelse (Andy) Gerling.  She also leaves five great-grandchildren.  Carol was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepfather Ralph Homan and daughter-in-law Barbara Krauss.

Per Carol's wishes, there will be no public service.  A private memorial gathering will be held.

Memorials may be offered to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Salem, or to an animal rescue organization or shelter of choice.
