Obituary

Danny Lee Koster, age 72, of Perry Township, Salem, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Born on June 18, 1953, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Danny was the son of a hardworking city where he grew up, attended school, and graduated before eventually finding his home in the Salem community.

By trade, Danny was a skilled auto mechanic. Whether he was working in a professional shop or turning wrenches in a driveway on his own time, he possessed an innate understanding of anything with an engine. If it had wheels—cars, trucks, or motorcycles—he probably worked on it. His passion for motors extended to the open road; Danny was an avid rider who lived for the wind in his face, especially during his cherished trips to Bike Week in Florida.

When he wasn’t under a hood, Danny was likely found near the water or in the woods. He was a dedicated fisherman and hunter who found peace in his "little boat" and spent countless hours tending to and fishing in his pond.

Danny was a man of action who was always the first to step up and help a neighbor or a friend in need—even if his family jokingly noted that that same "handy" spirit didn't always make it through the front door of his own home. He enjoyed the simple thrills of life: watching WWF wrestling, boating, and the playful art of picking on his grandchildren. While he could occasionally be at odds with those closest to him, his underlying bond with his family remained constant.

Danny is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Ollie Koster whom he married on January 19, 1990, and a large, blended family who will carry on his stories: Children: Jason (Janet) Koster and Denny (Elizabeth) Koster, Holly Wynyard, Nellie McCleery, Kerry (Samuel) Bennett, and Paul (Kimberlie) McCleery. Siblings: Thomas, Jeff, Sherri, and Deborah. His legacy also lives on through the joy of 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, all of whom he took great pride in "pestering" and loving in his own unique way.

"Gone fishing, or perhaps riding toward the Florida sun—where the engines run smooth and the catch is always biting."

Danny maybe be gone from our sight, but he will always remain a part of all of us in a unique special way. He knew where he was going, and looked out towards that way. That feeling of the wind across his face must have been so wonderful, as he went on his way.

The family has entrusted his final wishes to the care of the Greenisen Family of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services in Salem.
