Donald Leroy Secrest 69, of Salem, died at 3:45 PM Friday at Essex of Salem # 1. He was born on June 22, 1946 in Salem, son of the late Harold and Mabel (Yarman) Secrest. Don has not only resided in Salem, but has been in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Michigan and Louisiana. He was a manager for the Wicks Lumber Company in Mansfield, Ohio until 1998, and also West Lumber Company down south. a veteran of the US Army from 1964 to 1968, and served in the Vietnam War and a Purple Heart recipient. A Life member of the Lisbon VFW Post 4111 where he was a past Commandor and District Commandar. He was a carpenter and loved making things and working with wood. A big fan of sports and followed OSU Buckeyes, Cleveland Browns, and Salem Quakers He is survived by his wife, the former Christina Louise McCoy, a son Scott Jeffrey Secrest of Salem, and a brother James (Shirley) Secrest of Lisbon. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Merle and Gene Secrest. There will be no services or calling hours held. He will be entombed in Seville, Ohio at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery where he will receive full honors from the US Army. Donations can be made to the donor's choice in Don's memory.
