Obituary

Dorothea Lois Clay 82, of Salem, (Formerly of Sharp Street) died at 4 AM Wednesday at Essex of Salem III where she has been a resident for 26 years. Dorothea has been a true friend to all the workers and residents at Essex of Salem III. She enjoyed doing for other residents and the staff. She will be sadly missed by all the staff of Essex III who have had the pleasure of knowing and caring for her. She had been a longtime friend of Robert and Darlene Hutton and was a resident of the former Hutton Nursing Center. Dorothea was a very active resident with selling snacks and cold pop in her room. Her love for art could be seen thru her drawings that won ribbons at the Canfield Fair. She was the winner of numerous metals in the Senior Olympics while at Essex. She enjoyed her puzzles, trivia, music, and taking part in many of the crafts and activities. When she graduated in 1950, Valedictorian of the Graduating class of 1950, American School in Chicago. A member of the Real Life Assembly of God Church. She lived on the family farm for 30 years raising sheep and selling the wool and sold rabbits they raised. She loved animals and had many dogs and cats. Dorothea was born on July 20, 1931 in Canfield, the daughter of the late Earl Leroy and Stella Margaret (Davis) Clay. She is also preceded in death by her sister Daisy Symons in 1965. A service has been planned for Friday, 3 PM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. The Rev. Kari Lankford will officiate the services and then burial at Hope Cemetery on Saturday morning. A time od visitation will be held one hour prior to the services.
