Dorothy Jane (Bishop) Hinchliffe 94, of Salem, died at 7:30 PM Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Courtyard on Lexington. She was born on January 18, 1924 in Salem, the daughter of the late Lucien G. and Clara E. (Ketterer) Bishop. Mrs. Hinchliffe was a lifetime area resident. She retired in 1987 from the Salem China Company, where she had worked for 23 years. Dorothy also worked at Hutton Nursing Home in the activities department. Dorothy was always active in the area and belonged to the Quota Club, Salem UCT Ladies Club, Salem High School Class of 1942, Salem Saxon Club Branch 18, and the First Christian Church where she was a former Sunday school teacher and a Deaconess. In their later years, Bill and Dorothy enjoyed traveling, especially by train, to the western United States. They were a true couple and were hardly ever seen out alone. Over the years, their home became the focal point for family gatherings and events and holds many fond memories for each member of the family. Dorothy is survived by her children, Nancy (Clifford) Votaw, Larry G (Gloria Jean), and Barry W (Betty) Hinchliffe all of Salem, a niece that was almost like a daughter to Dorothy, Liz Bishop of Tampa, FL, her brother Phil M. (Shirley) Bishop of San Mateo, FL, her grandchildren, Barry (Sarah) Hinchliffe II of Aliquippa, PA, Kristy Hinchliffe of Salem, OH, Larry (Heather) Hinchliffe Jr of Alliance, OH, William (Julie) Hinchliffe IV of Columbiana, OH, Jody Kozma of Salem, OH, Bob (Amy) Buttermore of Milwaukee, WI, Justin (Abby) Buttermore of Granville, OH, Amybeth (Josh) Wright of Zanesville, OH, great-grandchilden, William Hinchliffe V, Katelynn, Miranda, and Marissa Hinchliffe, Lilly and Emma Kozma, Savannah, Brady, Cody, Bo, Doak, and Quinn Buttermore, Maggie, Ally, and Drew Wright, step-grandchildren, Terri Reed of Patascala, OH, Christine Votaw of Alliance, OH, step-great-grandchilden Nick Hudson, Morgan Hudson, Eliza Mason, Harlie and Madison Reed, Kayla (Michael) Stentz, and step-great-great-grandsons, Shaun and Alexander Hudson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William L. Hinchliffe III, whom she married on August 26, 1944 and who died on March 7, 2017 and her brother Don G. Bishop. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral and Cremation Services of Salem.
