Obituary

Dorothy Jane (Pemberton) Weinman 62, of Jacksonville, Fla., died at 6:50 PM Thursday, September 25, 2014 at the Mayo Clinic. She was born on July 18, 1952 in Salem, Ohio, the daughter of the late Laurence L. and Ruby Jane (Wiseman) Pemberton. She was currently the Social Studies Department head at the Providence School where she has served for 15 years. She also taught in the Catholic Schools in Canton (Oh), Columbiana (Oh) Christian School, Ft. Myers (Fla.) Christian School, Miami (Fla.) Westminster Christian School, Trinity Christian School in St. Augustine (Fla.). Her career of teaching was in the field of social studies, history, European studies and world history. She was brought up and a member of the Society of Friends. She attended many churches over her life as she moved from her different teaching positions. She loved to travel and genealogy research. They took a family vacation to Europe and traveled to well known historic locations. In her spare time she did needle work of all kinds, baking pies and trying to make the best soft chocolate chip cookies. She met the love of her life, Paul W. Weinman while working in Columbiana, Ohio. They later married on June 26, 1982. In addition to Paul, she is survived by her children, Scott David and Curtis Paul Weinman both of Jacksonville, Fla., a sister Julia Susan (Dean H.) Council of Richmond, Va., her aunt Elma Dixson of Salem, a nephew, 2 nieces, a great niece and nephew. Services will be held on Saturday at the Sixth Street Friends Meeting House in Salem. A Memorial lunch will be served and time of visitation with the family from 11:30 to 12:30 Saturday at the meeting house. There will be formal calling hours held from 1 to 2 PM with the services starting at 2 PM. The burial will immediately follow in the Upper Springfield Cemetery in Damascus. Donations can be made to the Society of Friends Meeting House in Salem or to an organization of the donor's choice.
