Earl O. Smith Jr.73, of Salem, died at 6:35 PM Monday, Jan. 11, 2016 at his home. He was born on August 26, 1942 in Dallas, NC., the son of the late Earl O. Smith Sr, and Mildred E. (Davis) Smith, and his Step Mother, the late Mary E. (Conley) Smith. He moved to the Salem Area in 1962, and previously lived in SC and Washington State. He was a truck driver for Hart Trucking Company in Canton and retired in 1987 after 30 years. In his early years he drove for his uncle who owned Red's Taxi (nka Paul's Cab). He was always active in church work and has served as a deacon, and bus driver at various church's in the area. He also enjoyed fishing. He will be sadly missed by his devoted wife of 50 years, the former Carole Ruth Kalbfall, his chilren, Sheri (Tom) Wherry-Egli of Homeworth, Teri (Dilip) Poduval of Maryland, Lynda Vesy of Poland, Randal (Tracye) Smith, Michelle Crank and Jennifer (Mark Warner) Smith all of Salem, his beloved grandchildren, Michael (Heather) Wherry of Zainesville, Stacey (Fred) Carlisle of Lisbon, Miranda Vesy of OK., Katey (Ryan) Roberts of Lisbon, Rikki Vesy of Akron, Marissah (Michael) Mahouski of Boardman, ElliotCrank of salem, Jayan Poduval of MD., Aaron Warner of Salem, and Kori Hall of Canfield, his great grandchildren, Zane and Talynn Wherry, Caiden Carlisle, Colin, Henry, Carolyn and Harper Roberts. In addition to his parents and step mother, he was preceded in death by his siblings Billy Ray Smith and Doris Phillips. A Celebration of Life Service will be observed on Friday, 2 PM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. The Pastor Bob Laughlin will be officiating the services and entombment will be in Grandview Cemetery. A time of visitation will be from 7 to 9 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
