Obituary

Eileen M. (Hall) Kerestes, 76, of Salem, died at 11:47 AM Friday, September 1, 2017 at Salem Regional Medical Center. She was born on December 22, 1940 in Salem, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Everett and Hazel (Kennedy) Hall.
She was a 1958 graduate of Salem High School, and a 1962 graduate of Kent State University, majoring in Education. Prior to becoming a military wife and mother, she was last employed as a 3rd grade teacher in Sebring, Ohio from approximately 1962 to 1966. She traveled the world while supporting her husband and his 20 year military career, and she made sure to take advantage of experiencing all the locations they were stationed. While her husband was stationed at the Nelligan barracks in Stuttgart, Germany she worked as a substitute teacher at the Army base's elementary school. She also helped with the United Way after her husband became the Executive Director of the United Way Services of Northern Columbiana County when he retired from the Army in 1986. She was a very active person and had many hobbies she enjoyed, some of which include bridge club, book club, golf, bowling, gardening, crafts and cake decorating; she was a self-taught, multi-talented crafter, even selling her crafts and decorated cakes with her sister-in-law, Fran Hall. She loved to crochet and set out to make every member of the family an afghan, which she almost fulfilled. She also enjoyed babysitting her great-grandchildren. Because of her caring nature and creativity she was a role model for all the women in her family. Her generosity made a lasting impression on anyone that had the privilege of knowing her.
She is survived by her only child, Melissa M. "Missy" Kerestes and her fiancée, Roger Tullis of Salem, OH; her grandchildren, D'lorah M. Eddinger and her boyfriend, Anthony Bruno, of New Castle, PA, Timothy S. Eddinger and his girlfriend, Julia McFarland of Salem, OH, and Zane E. Tullis and Colt W. Tullis, both of Salem, OH; two great grandchildren, Gabriel Lee Scullion and Ella Mae Bruno; her siblings, Irene Halverstadt of Salem, OH, Lawrence (Fran) Hall of Salem, OH, and Carol (Bill) Hall-Cox of Poland, OH; and her 11 nieces/nephews, 18 great nieces/nephews and 19 great-great nieces/nephews. She also leaves her four-legged fur baby, Tobie.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on July 23, 2015 by her husband, Lt. Col. Harold H. Kerestes, US Army (Ret.), whom she married on August 18, 1962. She is also preceded in death by her brothers Walter and Robert Hall and a great-nephew, Joey Hall.
A celebration of life reception is scheduled for Saturday, September 23, 2017 from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the Greenford Lutheran Church, 7450 West South Range Road, Greenford, Ohio. She will join her husband at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Seville, OH with her interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Salem Federation of Women, 271 S. Broadway, Salem, Ohio or the Salem Alumni Association, 330 E. State Street, Salem, Ohio in Eileen's name.
