Lorraine (Irwin) Burns, 90, of Salem, passed away peacefully at her residence on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 8:29 a.m.

Lorraine was born April 25, 1936, in Indiana County, Pennsylvania, a daughter of the late Joseph Irwin and Zoe (Hawk) Irwin. She was a graduate of Marion Center High School and devoted much of her life to her home and family as a homemaker.

A dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Lorraine found some of her greatest happiness in caring for those around her. Her family remained at the center of her life through the years, and she was especially blessed to see her family grow to include 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. More recently, she celebrated her 90th birthday surrounded by family and friends, marking the occasion together with those she held dear.

Lorraine was a dedicated Christian and an active member of Calvary Baptist Church in Salem. Her faith was an important part of her life and was reflected in her devotion to her church and family.

At home, Lorraine enjoyed keeping busy. She loved gardening and tending her flower beds and also enjoyed sewing, quilting and canning. These simple pleasures, along with time spent with her family, filled the years of a life centered upon home, faith and those she loved.

Her husband, Andrew Clark Burns, preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory her four children, Carole L. Oaks of Washingtonville, Jannette L. (Ray) Mathews of Eden Valley, Pennsylvania, Jonathan S. Burns of Canastota, New York, and Matthew S. (Angela) Burns of Youngstown; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two surviving sisters.

In addition to her husband and parents, Lorraine was preceded in death by other members of her family who went before her.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.
