Ellen Haas Brantingham 92 of Martinsville, VA passed away on July 26, 2013 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville/Henry County. She was born on February 28, 1921 in Shelby, Ohio to the late Mable Beam Haas and Ira Haas. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Paul J. Brantingham in 1984; step-sons, David Brantingham and Robert Brantingham and brother, Paul Haas. Mrs. Brantingham graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, Kentucky and attended Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio to earn a major in English and one in Music Education. She taught at Cleveland Bible College for five years. She married Rev. Paul Brantingham and they pastored churches in the Evangelical Friends Church denomination where she continued to teach at Winona, Ohio; Tecumseh, Michigan; Paris, Tennessee and Martinsville, Virginia. Surviving are her son, Samuel Brantingham of Martinsville; daughter, Paula McClure of Floyd, VA; three step-sons, John Brantingham of Washington State, James Brantingham of Michigan, and Ben Brantingham of Oregon; twenty-five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 4, 2013 at Trinity Friends Church, Martinsville, VA with Pastor Carl Luff officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, August 3, 2013, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the church. Donations may be made to Gideon International, Henry County East Camp, Martinsville, Virginia 24114.
