Ernest Eugene Kovach 91, of Canfield, died at 4:25 PM Saturday at Essex of Salem # 1 where he had just moved as a patient. He was born on June 30, 1922 in Rosemont, Ellsworth Twp, Mahoning County, Ohio, the son of the late Steve and Rose (Balogh) Kovach. He had been an engineer at US Steel for 35 years, served in the US Army during WW2 and was Presbyterian by faith. He was a graduate of North Jackson High School, attended Kentucky University and graduated from University Pitt. With a degree in engineering. He enjoyed baseball and played a lot when he was younger. His favorite team was the Cleveland Indians. He was a lifetime member of the Ellsworth VFW # 9571 and helped to build their current building. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Elizabeth Cora Kirkbride whom he married on August 24, 1957, a step son, A. Kirk (Sandra) Hawkins of Beloit (who was like his own son), 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 12 great great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a step son Ralph L. Hawkins, and a brother Steven Kovach. Services will be held on Wednesday, 1 PM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem, the Rev Robert Rowley, Chaplain of Salem Regional Medical Center will officiate. A time of visitation will be observed one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. The burial will be at Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be performed by the Salem Honor Guard and assisted by the Ellsworth VFW Post # 9571.
