Esther M. Mitchell 90, of Salem, died at 8 PM Wednesday at her home in Salem. She was born on May 21, 1923 in Salem, the last surviving child of Harry and Pearl (Cullen) Mitchell. She was a lifetime area resident of the Salem area. A member of the Salem First United Methodist Church, a 1942 graduate of Salem High School. She had been employed for 40 years at the G. C. Murphy Store in downtown Salem until it closed in 1985. She is survived by nine nieces and nephews, Shawna Mitchell , her caregiver and with whom she lived, Michelle Lonardo of Columbus, Darlene (Daniel) Butler of Georgia, Harriet Ray of North Carolina, Donald (Deborah) Mitchell of N. Carolina, John (Cindy) Mitchell of East Rochester, Jennifer Mitchell of Salem, Sam and David Lewis of N. Carolina, two sister-in-laws, Leila Mitchell of Salem and Mildred Mitchell of N. Carolina, and many great nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by all her siblings, Elsie Lewis, Ellen, Ethel, Marjorie, Infant Jean, Edward, Glenn, Jack, Charles, Frank and Harry Mitchell. A time of visitation will be observed on Monday from 10 to 11 AM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. A service will be held at 11 AM with the Rev. P. Douglas George officiating. The burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Salem.
