Frank Joseph Sanchez Sr. 81, passed away late Monday afternoon, March 20 at his home in Salem. He was born on January 28,1936, in Midland, PA, the son of the late Estaban and Esperanza (De la Cruz) Sanchez. Frank graduated from Midland PA High School in 1954. Frank served in the Navy, on the USS Macon, in the 7th Division, from 1955 to 1958. He also graduated from Hobart Welding School and Ambridge Practical Nursing School. Frank retired from General Motors in 1998 after 32 years. He was in the audit department in the final process. He was formally employed by the Gold Cross Ambulance. He was a member of the United Auto Workers Local #1112 and the Salem United Commercial Travelers Council # 590. Frank was a member of the St. Paul's Catholic Church of Salem. He belonged to the Salem Knight of Columbus, the Merry Mates and Men's Club, the Perry Masonic Lodge / 32nd degree Mason, Oriental Band of the Scottish Rite, and Salem American Legion Post # 56. He worked with Habitat for Humanity. Frank was a past board member of the American Red Cross, a past president of the Salem Area Shrine Club, a Shriner clown "Jitterbug" who enjoyed performing in parades and helping with the charitable arm of the Shriner's Hospital in Erie. Frank enjoyed taking various day trips with his wife Sarah. He liked to spend time cooking and catering for different organizations, most recently the Banquet on Mondays. He loved planting in the spring and putting up a huge Christmas tree and village for Christmas. His most favorite occupation was spending time with his only granddaughter Savannah, who he loved very much. Frank is survived by his wife the former Sarah Brooks, his sons, Steve Sanchez of Pittsburgh, PA, Frank (Julia) Sanchez Jr. of Boardman, OH, Shawn (Jaime) Sanchez of Salem, OH, his granddaughter Savannah Sanchez of Conneaut, OH, his siblings Reynaldo (Charlene) Sanchez of New Brighton, PA, Steve (Gerry) Sanchez of Beaver, PA, Amelia Juarez, Celia Sanchez, and Lidia (Mark Frazier) LeMasters all of Midland, PA. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 1:30 pm at St. Paul's Catholic Church in Salem (Those attending the memorial mass are asked to park behind the school building not behind the church). The celebrant will be Rev. Fr. Robert Edwards of the church. A time of visitation will be held from 11:15 to 1:15 pm at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen and Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem, OH. Burial will take place in Hope Cemetery.
