Frederick Luther
Kaufman
May 20, 1920 – January 27, 2013
Frederick Luther Kaufman 92, of Salem departed at 6:45 AM Sunday, January 27, 2013 for his final journey, and is now home in Heaven. Fred was born on May 20, 1920 in Jackson Township, Stark County, Ohio to the late Frederick John and Alice Ann (Stockdale) Kaufman. He resided in Stark and Carroll Counties prior to moving to the Salem area in 1963. He was employed as a tool and die maker for the Hunt Valve Company and after 46 years of dedication to his work he retired at the age of 86. His employer and the Salem News honored him for his extremely long term of faithful employment. He enlisted in the US Navy during WW II and served honorable in the Pacific theater for three years. He was a member of the Salem Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Maxine Laverne Downin whom he married in 1941. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Clifford, Glendon, Delmar, Wilbur and James Kaufman and a daughter, Kathie Kaufman Troup. He is survived by his children, Larry (wife Caroline) Kaufman and Dr. Paul (wife Pearl) Kaufman all of Salem and Deborah Blackin of Canton, fourteen grandchildren, twenty three great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren. A Celebration of Life Service will be observed on Friday, February 1, 2013, 1 PM at the Salem Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Church with the Rev. Stanley Grabill officiating. He will receive full military honors at the church immediately following the services. He will be laid to rest in Woodsdale Cemetery with his wife Maxine awaiting resurrection morning. A time of visitation will be observed on Thursday, January 31, 2013, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral Home 1617 E. State Street, Salem and one hour prior to the service at the church.
