G. Reed Votaw 70 of Salem, passed away early Friday morning, April 13, at his home. He was born on March 9, 1948, in Salem, OH, the son of the late John Brooke and Grace Mary (Muntz) Votaw. Reed graduated from Salem High School in 1966. He graduated in 1970 with a Bachelors in Education from KSU, then received his Masters in Education from KSU in 1979. He taught in Riverside Local Schools in Painsville and Lisbon City Schools. He was the Assistant Principal at United Local Schools until his retirement in 2001. During the school year, he would coach football, and basketball. During the summer months, he would keep busy doing concrete work, carpentry work, and woodworking. He also sold real estate for Town & Suburban Realty. He was a 40 year member of the Salem Elks Lodge #305 and was on the Scholarship Committee. He was a member of the Hose Club, a member of Ohio Educators Association, and a member of the Ohio Association of Secondary School Principles. Reed enjoyed traveling, fishing, golfing, and visiting. He is survived by his children, Derek R (Alexandra) Votaw of Golden, CO, Torey S (Jason) Ivanic of Golden, CO; his grandchildren, Otis, Andrew, and Emily; his brother J Parke (Anita) Votaw of Mentor, OH and sister-in-law Marsha Votaw of GA. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brothers, John and Ed and sister-in-law Lois.
