(Chambers) Wittenmyer
September 23, 1926 – June 22, 2025
Gertrude Ileen (Chambers) Wittenmyer 98, of Bellevue, passed away at 9:22 PM on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at her home.
She was born September 23, 1926, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of the late Gloster D. and Vertie May (Reynolds) Chambers.
Gertrude moved from Michigan to Portage, Ohio when she was four years old, at age seventeen she married and moved to Bowling Green, where she and her husband raised their family. They moved to Salem in 1968, where Gertrude lived until 2022 and moved to Bellevue. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially taking their camper and going camping. They also would attend church camp meetings. Her former churches she attended were Six Point Mission, Wayne, Ohio, Salem Pilgrim Church, Salem, Ohio, Beloit Holiness Chapel, Beloit, Ohio, Bible Holiness Chapel, Salem, Ohio, and was most currently attending Pilgrim Holiness Church, Nevada, Ohio.
She is survived by her children; Ms. Joann Collins of Bellevue, Beverly Jean (Michael) Ballard of Bowling Green, Charlene (Leonard) Collins of Barberton, Peggy Lee (Dave) Furin of Newcomerstown, and Bernard Daniel (Evelyn) Wittenmyer of Tennessee, and her brother Leon J. (Shirley) Chambers of Bowling Green, as well as 15 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and 15 great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death on April 13, 2017, by her husband Bernard "Barney" Wittenmyer, whom she married December 28, 1943, her brother G. Merle Chambers, a grandson Dale Collins, and 3 great grandchildren; Brandon Brink, Choncie Allison, and Heavenly Grace Parker.
A Celebration of Life Service will be Friday, June 27, 2025, 1 PM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services of Salem, Rev. Wesley Hunting of the Bible Holiness Chapel will be officiating. A time for visitation will be noon to 1 PM at the funeral home. Gertrude will be laid to rest in the Bible Holiness Chapel Cemetery in Salem, Ohio.
