Griff Hayes Lewis, E6, USN, (Ret.) 72, of Youngstown, died at 5:14 am Friday, November 28, 2025, at the home of his daughter.

He was born on February 24, 1953, in (Ft. Sam Houston) San Antonio, Texas, the son of the late Llewellyn Jones Lewis, US AF and Barbara Lee (née Hayes) Lewis.

He joined the US Navy at age 29, just after the Gulf War Era in 1982. He served as a Boiler Technician on numerous ships during his 20 years of service that ended on the USS Detroit. Griff served during Operation Urgent Fury, Operation Just Cause, Persian Gulf War, Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Enduring Freedom. He was awarded / received The Navy and Marine Corp Achievement Medal, two NATO Metals, three Armed Forces Expeditionary Medals, Armed Forces Service Medal, five Good Conduct Medals, two Southwest Asia Service Medals, two Meritorious Unit Commendations, four Navy Battle "E" Ribbons, and two Navy Recruiting Ribbons.

He is survived by his children: Lee (Mary) Lewis of Flushing, MI., Kristen (Jeff) Petrycki of Columbiana, OH., Brianne (Rob Crouser) Lewis of Pierpont, OH., and a step daughter, Stacy Lyda of Cortland, OH., sister: Stacey (Frank) Price of Columbiana, OH., twelve grandchildren, five step grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Wade Lewis, as well as a longtime companion, Mary Lyda.

His daughter Kristen, her  husband Jeff, and family, made Griff's final days very comfortable along with the support of Patriot Hospice.

The family plans to have a Celebration of Life Service in the future.

The arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.
