James Ramsey Berg, 85, of Hanoverton, died at 3:07 AM on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown, Ohio.
He was born April 1, 1939, in Salem, Ohio, the son of the late Charles Louis and Alice Alberta (Zeh) Berg.
James was a 1958 graduate of Salem High School, that same year he was called to protect his country and proudly joined the US Navy serving until 1960. He was a very patriotic man and spiritedly supported the 2nd Amendment. James enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially for trout, and staying in his cabin. He worked as a tool and die maker for General Motors in Lordstown.
He is survived by his children Lori (Larry) Everly of Leetonia, James (Antonette) Berg of Hanoverton, step-children Clint (Cheryl) Emelo of Leetonia, and Randy (Gretchen) Emelo of Colorado, siblings Patricia Dougherty of Salem, Karen Miller of Florida, Charlotte (George) Bowman of Salem, and Sandra Doran of Wisconsin, four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, and numerous step-grandchildren and great step-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death in 2009, by his wife Glenda Lynn Berg, whom he married December 17, 1982, and a step-son Kyle Emelo.
A celebration of life service will be on Sunday, July 14, 2024, 3:10 PM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services of Salem with Rev. Byron Bufkin officiating. Military honors will be performed by the Salem Honor Guard at 3 PM, a time for visitation will be at the funeral home from 2-3 PM Sunday. Following services on Sunday, there will be a private family get together at the home of Lori and Larry Everly to celebrate and remember James.
The family asks that donations be made to the Salem Honor Guard c/o Salem AMVETS Post 45 750 S. Broadway Ave. Salem, Ohio 44460.
