John Charles DeCort 64, of Salem, died at 8AM Thursday at The Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. He was born on February 22, 1952 in Salem, the son of the late Joseph J. and A. Ruth (Russell) DeCort. He was a tool and die maker by trade and worked at Sekley Tool and Die for four years, from May, 1977 to July, 2008 at GM Lordstown, and from 1993 to current was working with his brother at JD2, LLC (at Salem Drag Strip) He is survived by his wife, the former Susan Lynn Cubbage whom he married on January 22, 1972, his children, Jennifer Ann (Edward Jr.) Schaefer and Jayne Lynn DeCort, all of Salem, Grandchildren, Evan and Luke Schaefer and Meagan DeCort, siblings Joseph James (Jane) DeCort Jr. of Ill, and Jeffery Phillip (Barbara) DeCort of Lisbon. He was a member of the NHRA and IHRA, a runner up in the 1988 IHRA Spring Nationals and a 2006 Supercharged Warriors Champion. A member of the Greenford Lutharn Church. He loved the ocean, boating in the pontoon boat, photography and RV camping. Services will be held on Wednesday, March 2, 11:30 AM at the Greenford Lutheran Church. The Rev. Mike Knauff of the church will be officiating the services. A time of visitation will be held from 10 to 11:30 AM Wednesday at the church. The burial will follow in the Grandview Cemetery in Salem.
