IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Louis
Ferrara
January 9, 1931 – July 4, 2015
John Louis Ferrara 84 of Salem, died on Independence Day at 11 AM, July 4, 2015 at Essex of Salem. He was born on January 9, 1931 in Youngstown, the son of the late Louis and Marie (Iannazone) Ferrara. He was a Korean War Veteran of the US Army and served as a Sergeant. He served in Company B of the 9th Armored Inf. Batt.. Upon returning from service he opened his own businesses, the Elite then the Golden Nugget. Retired in 1996 after 21 years with the Youngstown office of the US Postal Service. He had been an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church until it closed. John was a very quiet man who led a very simple life, but anyone who knew him would say that he was a kind, gentle and generous man. He showed his love by his actions to his family and friends. He would never hesitate to give a neighbor a ride to the doctor, grocery store, or whatever their need may have been. If he saw a financial need, he was quick to help without hesitation. In 2013, he moved to Clare Bridge of Austintown when he developed Parkinson Dementia. The staff would hear his niece and nephew call him Uncle John when visiting with him, and soon he became Uncle John to all of them because of his sweet disposition, his smile and laughter. They treated him like family. He is survived by a sister Jane Ferraro and nephew Donnie Ferraro both of Liberty, Nephew David (Laura) Robich of Poland and Niece Darlene (Roger) Hack of Salem. Great nephews: Ryan, Jeff (Kaci) Hack, Justin, Matthew, and David Robich. A private family burial will take place at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman, Ohio. He will receive full military honors by the US Army. Donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley 5190 Market Street, Youngstown, Ohio 44512 or Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research POB 5014, Hagerstown, MD. 21741-5014.
