Obituary

John J. Haney Jr 87, of Berlin Center, passed away Thursday, May 14, 2026, at the Circle of Care in Salem, surrounded by his family.

He was born on October 14, 1938, in Beaver, Pennsylvania, to the late Rev. John J. and Shyrl (Porter) Haney Sr.

John was the beloved husband of Carol (Graham) Haney, for 63 years, before she passed away September 10, 2024.

John started his working career as a printer for the Beaver County Times, Beaver, PA. He later worked as a typesetter and pressman at the Youngstown Vindicator in Youngstown, OH. He was a member of the Masonic Temple in Poland for over 40 years. John was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan who rarely missed a game and an avid train lover and collector. John had a love of singing starting at an early age with him singing in the church choir. Later he led a 4-H singing group called the New Horizons which his daughters were all members of as well. He also sang at each of his daughters' weddings.

As a crafter and woodworker, for the past 50 years, John traveled around the country for various craft shows and artisan festivals with his wife, Carol. Collectible Treasures by Ca-Jo Hobby House was John and Carol’s craft company selling beautiful works of wood, stained glass and most recently hand painted glass/glassware. John created amazing friendships and memories with his fellow crafters who had become his second family. He loved taking his grandchildren on the road to experience the crafter life when they were not in school. John and Carol had a store at the Carnation Mall in Alliance, OH for several years, and for the past 12 years, they could be found at Shaker Woods Festival. John also loved sharing his knowledge of woodworking with his grandchildren.

John is survived by three daughters; Carrie (Kevin) Utt, Beth Saltsman, and Tracy (Sam) Ferry, five grandchildren; Ryan (Stephanie) Ferry, Kayla Ferry, Cassie (Nitin) Utt, Brandon (Haley) Ferry, and Karli Utt and five great-grandchildren; Aiden, Lilith, Everett, Kushaal, and Ada, his brother Robert (Carol) Haney of Fallsbrook, CA, his sister Shryl Glisan of Fallsbrook, CA, and sister-n-law Eileen Graham of Carlisle, PA.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol and his parents.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services of Salem.
