John Joseph Tomkinson 91,of Salem, passed away at 9:50 pm Thursday, September 7, 2017 at Essex of Salem III.
He was born on February 12, 1926, in New York City, NY, the son of the late William and Mary Ellen (Hogan) Tomkinson.
He served in the US Army during WWII and was discharged honorably on May 17, 1946. John loved New York City especially Central Park. He was a history buff. His favorite movies were the silver screen movies from the 30's and 40's. He knew every star in those movies and enjoyed keeping track of them. He had a wonderful sense of humor and always found something to laugh at.
Hw is survived by his sister-in-law, Elaine Tomkinson of GA, his two nieces, Kathleen (Rusty) Barber of VT, Dianne Niece of Troy, OH, a great-niece and nephew, several great great-nieces and nephews, and close friend, Phyllis McKinley of Salem, OH.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, William Tomkinson. Arrangements by Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services.
