October 23, 1942 – July 19, 2015
Dr. Joseph Stephen Belichick DDS., 72, of New Waterford, (formerly of Struthers and Poland) died on his farm on Sunday, July 19, 2015. He was born on October 23, 1942 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Joseph and Amelia (Domjancic) Belichick. Joe graduated from Struthers High School in 1960. He attended Ohio University and was accepted early into The Ohio State Dental School in 1963. He graduated from Ohio University and The Ohio State Dental School in 1967. Following graduation, "Dr. Joe" first practiced dentistry in Struthers with Dr. Dixon. Later, Dr. Joe started his own dental practice in Poland, Ohio, where he lived and saw patients until the mid 1990s. Dr. Joe lived life to the fullest. For years, Dr. Joe had a cottage on Conneaut Lake in Pennsylvania, where he enjoyed boating during the summers, snowmobiling during the winters, and hosting well-known lamb roasts. He boated throughout Ohio, Pennsylvania, Chesapeake Bay, and the Bahamas. Having hitchhiked out to Arizona and California during college, Dr. Joe returned to Scottsdale, Arizona in the 1980s and bought a bar and restaurant known as the Lamp Post Inn, splitting his time between Arizona and Ohio. Dr. Joe also got involved in local politics, winning election to the Poland Village Council and running for Mayor of Poland in 1991. In 1992, Dr. Joe found a 21-acre farm in New Waterford, Ohio. He restored the farm house and renovated the original barn to include a dental office and event space. He also built a self-designed golf course on the farm and later added cattle, calling it Point Breeze Farm. Dr. Joe said that he found the farm the most peaceful place to enjoy all of his time. He is survived by his children, Joe Belichick of Sunnyvale, Ca., Kim Belichick of Fremont, Ca., and Meg Belichick of Half Moon Bay, Ca., siblings, his twin John F. (Candice) Belichick of Stuart, Fla., Robert Leonard (Robert Francis Gately) Belichick and Patricia Ellen Belichick both of Novato, Ca., four grandchildren and all his cattle, sheep, chickens, and beloved dogs, especially Max. The family is having an informal gathering to receive condolences from friends and family on Sunday, July 26 at the farm in New Waterford. An event to celebrate the life of Dr. Joe will be held on an upcoming date at Point Breeze Farm.
