Larry Albert Wassem 76, of Salem, died at 10:35 PM Tuesday at his home surrounded by his family. Larry was born on February 2, 1938 in Tuscarawas County, New Philadelphia area. He was the son of Karl H and Dorothy K. (Kuhn) Wassem. He graduated in 1956 from New Philadelphia High School, entered the US Air Force in August. He served his country for four years, and departed as a E3. He has resided in New Philadelphia, New Lawrence, Massillon, Maumee and Salem. He was a truck driver over his career, and drove for Roadway Trucking based out of Akron/Toledo/N. Lima, TDDS Inst. In Lake Milton and Federal Express/ Bob Garwood in N. Jackson. He ran his last load this year, before taking ill. Larry was a member of the Mount Olivet United Church of Christ in North Lima where he was an Elder and Deacon. He was a hard worker and loved to give back to the people. He was a volunteer with the United Church of Christ, Christian Relief group. He was responsible for the transportation of the tool trailer to locations of disasters and work zones. He loved trucks and truck rodeos, received awards for safe driving and a member of the Teamsters Union # 377 from Youngstown. He was formerly apart of the Boy Scouts # 942 in Navarre, and the New Philadelphia Jaycees. He is survived by his wife, the former Donna Jean Evanovich whom he married on November 20, 1964, his children, Terriann Jean McFarland and Karl Henry Wassem, his beloved grandchildren whom he cherished, Kathryn Ann and Elizabeth Mae McFarland all of Salem, his sister Connie Lee Siegenthaler of Dover. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother Richard Karl Wassem. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday, 2 Pm at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. The Rev. Jerry Kruse of the church will officiate, assisted by Pastor Renae Meggitt of the Calvary United Methodist Church. N. Lima. The Salem Honor Guard will provide full military honors at the conclusion of the services. A time of visitation will be held from Noon to 2 Pm Monday at the funeral home. The family is requesting that memorial contributions to be made to either 3 C's of N. Lima, 410 W. S. Range Road, N.
