On July 22, 1957, in the little town of Cardenas, San Luis Potosi, Mexido, a baby boy was born to J. Natividad Luna Garcia and Ramona Morales de Luna, who they named Magdaleno. He was the second of 9 living children. He studied a few years, but as time went on and there were many mouths to feed, he and his brothers were sent to look for work. When he was quite young, Magdaleno and one of his brothers went searching for employment to Mexico City, a city teeming with inhabitants. They became lost and had no money. A kind lady saw them and, feeling sorry for them, gave them a bit of money with which they were able to finally reach their destination. In January of 1981 Magdaleno started out on a life-changing adventure—coming to the United States. Some of his first jobs were picking oranges in Florida, working in a saw mill in Texas, and working in a restaurant in Oklahoma. While he was in Oklahoma, he had a desire to become legal in this country and visited the Hispanic American Mission where Kenneth and Elizabeth Coker ministered. Elizabeth Coker worked hand in hand with immigration helping illegal individuals to know if they could become legal and how to go about it. Her office helped them to gather important papers to prove their eligibility to gain legal status in the U.S. and to fill out applications for them. After studying the necessary 40 hours of history and English for the amnesty program, he was able to obtain his "green card." Magdaleno had a hungry heart and began attending the services at the mission, where he gave his heart to the Lord. The Cokers took a special interest in him and spoke lovingly of him as their son. When he had finished his required studies for legalization, he worked at the mission as a guard outside during the evening amnesty classes. Mrs. Coker needed a bilingual secretary in her busy office, around the mission, and spoke of this need in a camp meeting in another state. A pastor's wife attending the camp knew of a bilingual woman who had been a missionary in Peru and contacted her. Eventually this lady was invited and came for a visit. After sensing that Oklahoma was where God wanted her, she began working in the office helping to fill out applications and answering the telephone. Magdaleno and the secretary, Martha Devers, were married on December 29, 1990, in the little mission church by Pastor Coker. In 1991 Magdaleno and Martha moved to PA to a Bible institute. In the year that they lived there, they began commuting on the weekends to Lebanon to help Rev. Tony Gonzalez with visitation and services of the Spanish work. After the school year was ended, they moved to Lebanon, where they could give themselves more fully to working with the Hispanics. After working at the chicken plant during the week, they would go visiting on Saturdays, then pick up people for church and teach a Sunday School class on Sundays. During their time in Lebanon they were foster parents for 7 years and had a number of children temporarily. One precious little curly-haired boy, Luis, came and was with them for some time, then permanently became part of their family. Later came a baby boy and sweet baby Joshua became a part of the family. In a few years a little baby girl, Evonne, brought joy to them all. After having lived 12 years in Lebanon, PA, Magdaeno and his family felt directed to move to York, PA. In their 8 ½ years there, they visited the Hispanics, and helped out in that area as they could. While there a second baby girl, Rachel, graced their home and brought much joy to the family.During the years in York, Magdaleno developed a cough which wouldn't go away. Finally in September of 2011, after several tests, he was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis. He had been a faithful provider until Aug of 2013, when he had to relinquish his employment as custodian and maintenance personnel. Because of his sickness, the family moved to OH. As he was a man used to working, the transition from bread winner to being at home was very difficult. Throughout his illness he continued to help out around the house as much as he could and took his cross without complaint. As an attendee of Beach City Bible Methodist Church, his desire to live for the Lord and serve Him has been his aim. His continuous burning desire has been to see all his family and others saved and be ready for heaven.
Magdaleno was preceded in death by his father and mother and 3 siblings in their infancy. He is survived by his wife, Martha and his 4 children—Luis, Joshua, Evonne, and Rachel. In addition he is survived by 8 siblings: Javier, Olivia, Ana Maria, and Rosalba (Cirilo Ramirez) of Cardenas, S.L.P., Mexico; Adrian (Estela), Andres (Gayle), and Alejandro of Atlanta, GA; and Teresa (Juan) de DeLeon of Sellersburg, IN and many relatives and friends.
