IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary Catherine
(Fennell) Vasko
August 24, 1934 – January 4, 2026
Mary Catherine Vasko 91, of Salem, passed away peacefully at 10:45 AM on Sunday, January 4, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of independence, laughter, and a spirit that simply refused to slow down.
She was born on August 24, 1934, in Greensburg, PA, to Charles and Margaret Fennell. Throughout her 91 years, she became known for many things, but perhaps most for her refreshing honesty. Mary was the kind of woman who said exactly what was on her mind. Her family will forever cherish her sharp wit and the unwavering confidence that made her the unforgettable heart of their home.
With a spirit that refused to slow down, Mary remained "on the go" well into her senior years, famously keeping her place in the driver's seat until she was nearly 90. She loved the thrill of a day out, and always being where the action was; whether she was heading out to play bingo, meeting friends for a meal, or simply running errands.
When she wasn't on the move, Mary found immense joy in the quiet beauty of her own backyard or visiting with her neighbors on their porch. She loved sitting outside, watching the world go by with a friendly wave, or just enjoying the fresh air. In her younger years, some of her happiest moments were spent with her late husband, Raymond, wandering through Mill Creek Park and visiting the duck pond—a simple tradition that spoke to her love of nature and companionship. She worked at Austintown Ambulatory Health Care for many years and had a big heart.
She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Raymond Frances Vasko, whom she married on May 28, 1955, and has missed since 1991. She also joins her parents and her siblings, Dorothy Seeger, George Fennell, and Howard Fennell, in eternal rest.
Her bright memory lives on through her daughters, Kathleen Ann Crum and Christine Ann Leasure; her grandchildren, Joseph Vasko and Brenda Bland; and her six great-grandchildren, Desirae, Logan, Jullian, Jared, Brandon, and Drew.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. Friends may visit with the family one hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM.
