Obituary

Mary Emily (Rohrer) Heaton ( aka Ritchie) 85, of Salem, died at Hospice House of New Philadelphia. She was born on March 3, 1930 in New Albany, Ohio, the daughter of the late Richard J. and Mary S. (Reishauber) Rohrer. She has lived in various places including Kansas. She had previously been employed at the farmers Insurance office near Chanute, Ks., was the second woman hired as a police officer in Salem, worked at Alliance Mfg., also at a hot dog shop and a dry cleaning company. She is survived by her son, William Glenn (Debra) Ritchie Jr. of Salem and Naples, Fla., two grandchildren, Matthew (Caitlin) Ritchie and Danielle Ritchie and three great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews including Emily (Leonadr) Bennett of Columbiana, Dorothy (Ed) Sargent of Salem, Johnny (Lucy) Rohrer of Leetonia, and Ivin (Melissa) Rohrer of Marietta, 4 great nephews, 1 great niece, 6 great great nephews, and 1 great great niece. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Heaton, children, Thomas Edward and Victoria Lynn Sunderman, siblings, Carl Joseph, Richard and Kurt William Rohrer, a niece Millicent Toni Rohrer. Mary had expressed that there be no service open to the public. She had requested that Pastor Larry Paxson of Faith Chapel have a short service and then be buried. On Wednesday afternoon, those who she choose came together to see her and honor her memory at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services.
