IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maurice "Dutch"
Wm. Sechler
May 15, 1921 – October 6, 2012
Maurice "Dutch" William Sechler 91, of the Claremont Retirement Village, Columbus, died at 4:50 AM Saturday. A faithful husband, father, brother, and grandfather and all round good friend to all. Dutch was a brought up in the depression and the war era. He went to the military and was a faithful defender of our country and our flag. He returned to the area to see the boom of the economy after the war thru his work. He always had a happy, joyful, loving side of him that showed to all who knew him. He was a true teacher to his children and taught them good ethics that would be handed down to future family members. Dutch was there to love, teach, give guidance, and show to all how to enjoy life to the fullest to all the grandchildren, and great grand children. Dutch was born on May 15, 1921, in Salem and resided at the Depot Street home (nka S. Ellsworth Ave.). He was the son of Gus and Renee (Rodier) Sechler. He was raised in the Salem area, and graduated in 1939 from the Salem High School. On August 11, 1940 he married the love of his life, the former Betty England who was a 1940 graduate from Salem. They made their home on North Broadway in Salem. He started working as an electrician at the former Mullins Mfg. Co. in Salem, March, 1941. On March 23, 1944 he was inducted into the US Navy, and served until February 6, 1946 during World War Two. He was an Electrician's mate Third Class and attended Submarine and Gyro Compass School. He was awarded the Victory Ribbon, American Area, Asiatic-Pacific, and Point System. He returned to Salem, and continued his life here with Betty. They had moved in Salem to the Goshen Road. He not only worked at Mullins Mfg. Co. in Salem as a Superintendent, he also worked at Alliance Wall as a Plant Manager and Youngstown Metal Products as a Plant Manager. They were members of the Salem First Christian Church, he was a life member of the VFW Post # 892, a charter member of the Amvets Post # 45, and a member of the Salem Saxon Club. Dutch and Betty later moved to Norton, Ohio and then on to Columbus, Ohio. In the past 11 years, Dutch has had it hard to move on with out Betty at his side. He was determined to be independent and not have to rely on others. It was that faithful fight that has kept Dutch from giving up and also wanting to be there for his family. It is true that he could have a stubborn side to him, be he did enjoy life to the fullest. He has left behind a true legacy for his family and friends to remember for years to come. He is survived by his daughter, Dawn (Husband Herbert) Douce of Powell, Ohio and a son Gene Sechler of Norton, Ohio, a sister Francie Tuel of Salem, four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife on October 1, 2001, a daughter Rosemary Ritenour, a brother William Sechler. A time of visitation was held from 12 Noon to 1 PM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen Funeral Home in Salem. The Salem Honor Guard provided full military burial rites at the cemetery.
