Phillip Thomas Davis 84, of Copeland Oaks Retirement Center, Sebring, passed away early Friday, May 17, 2024.
He was born on April 2, 1940, in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of the late Thomas Henry and Catherine Melva (Lundgren) Davis.
Phil was 1958 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School, where he was president of the car club and played football. He then went on to serve in the US Navy. Throughout the years, he became an accomplished runner, completing many marathons and hundreds of 5K races across the country. He was known for his love of music and could always be found on the dance floor.
Phil retired from the Davis YMCA in Boardman Ohio as a fitness instructor and taught the Silver Sneakers program at the Ursuline Motherhouse until nearly 80 years of age. Phil had previously worked at Lear and GM in Lordstown, VW plant in New Stanton, Pa., ROC Properties in Atlanta, Ga., and managed some others in Michigan. While raising a family and working full time, Phil was finally able to graduate from YSU Class of 2007.
Phil was an avid wine Conniseur. He had the most memorable sense of humor and was very competitive in sports and board games with his children.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 65 years, the former Barbara Ann Beard who he married in 1959, his children: Vickie Fowler, Tina (Tami Tomich) Davis, and Lisa Murphy all of East Palestine, Tracy (Glenn) Crosby of Leetonia and Jeffrey (Michelle) Davis of Columbiana, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, siblings Louis Richard (Diane) Davis of Atlanta, Ga. and his favorite sister, Lenora "Lee" DeAngel of Columbiana.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, May 22,2024,at Mount Olivet UCC in North Lima, OH. Visitation from 4-5 PM with service at 5pm, Pastors Tim Paroz and Jerry Kruse co-officiating. A meal will follow the service at the church.
A second service will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024, with a Celebration of Life Gathering from 2-4 PM in Murphy Hall, in the Lake Shore Apartments Building of Copeland Oaks in Sebring, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Davis Family YMCA to the "Live Strong" or "Total Parkinson" fitness programs that Phil helped to develop. (45 McClurg Road, Youngstown, Ohio 44512) please see QR Code in pictures above.
