SALEM – Some men are measured by the titles they hold, but Richard “Dick” Scott Jackson was measured by the ripples he left in the water, the divots he replaced on the fairway, and the steady, quiet love he gave to his hometown. Dick played his final round and cast his last line on Monday, March 23, 2026, passing away peacefully at 11:40 p.m. at Summa Health Hospital in Akron.

Born in Salem on September 11, 1954, to the late Richard D. and Jennie (Mozina) Jackson, Dick was a "Salem boy" through and through. After graduating from Salem High School in 1972, he traded textbooks for blueprints, becoming a master machinist at Chester Hoist Company. He approached his trade like he approached a difficult bunker shot: with patience, precision, and a hand that never shook.

On April 23, 1977, Dick began his greatest adventure when he married Dawn L. (Ulrich) Jackson. For nearly 49 years, they were a team, building a life in Salem rooted in a devotion that was as reliable as the tides he loved to watch.

If you were looking for Dick, your best bet was the Westville Lake Golf Course on a Tuesday night. He lived for the rhythm of the league, the friendly banter on the tee box, and the pursuit of the perfect drive. He was a man of tradition who rarely missed a beat—or a game. He was a permanent fixture in the stands for his grandchildren, Kylie and Camden, cheering them on with a pride that was visible to everyone. The only thing that could pull him away from the bleachers was a Tuesday night tee time; his family knew that on those evenings, Dick was exactly where he needed to be.

Dick found his peace where the pavement ended. Whether he was sitting in the golden silence of the woods hunting, casting a line into a local pond, or braving the salt spray of the ocean for a day of deep-sea fishing, he was a man at home in the elements. He loved sitting back and enjoying a good book, while sitting in the sun on a beach and soaking up the quiet beauty of the water.

A man of community and faith, he attended services at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and a familiar, friendly face at the Salem Elks, Salem Amvets, and the Salem Saxon Club.

He leaves behind a family who will forever miss his steady presence: his devoted wife, Dawn L. Jackson; his sons, Kurt Michael Jackson of Salem and Keith Richard Jackson of North Benton; and the lights of his life, his grandchildren, Kylie and Camden Jackson. He is also survived by his sisters, Amy (Joseph) Farago of Salem and Sandy (Carl) Hoerig of Strongsville, along with a lively group of nieces and nephews. He now joins his parents and his sister, Lori Fisher, in the eternal sunshine.

Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Friday, March 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.

Dick Jackson lived a life that felt like a long, warm afternoon at the beach—reliable, sun-drenched, and full of heart. He taught us that a good life isn't complicated: work hard, love your family, and never miss a tee time. To honor Dick’s memory, the family invites you to wear your favorite golf attire to the visitation on Friday and bring along your best (or most embellished) golf story or fishing "lie" to share in his honor.
