November 18, 1948 – November 15, 2018
Richard Ray Elerick 69, of Leetonia, died at 9:20 pm Thursday, November 15, 2018 in the emergency room of Salem Regional Medical Center after taking ill at home.
He was born on November 18, 1948 in Dennison, OH, the son of the late Herbert Ray Elerick and Margaretta Lydia (Gordon) Bickerton and step father Chester Bickerton. He was a self employed truck driver for many years. Then he worked for RT Vernal Paving Company in N. Lima as a driver and heavy equipment operator for 20 years.Rick was very proud to have been a US Marine, and willing to tell you. He was a very strong man, but yet simple. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. He was big fan of Harley Davidson Motorcycles and loved to ride and race them. The Quaker City Drag strip was a common place to find him in his 79 Chevy Nova, or car shows with the 68 C10 Chevy. Rick had friends all over the area that he enjoyed spending time with as well as family. He was a member of the Leetonia Eagles Aire #1496 and American Legion Post # 0131, a life member of Washingtonville VFW Post # 5532. He also had a passion for guns. He is survived by his wife, whom he married on November 17, 2017, after being together for 24 years, Susan Marie (Sexton) Elerick, his children, Angela Elerick-Graves of Cleveland, Ricki (Chris) Williams of VA, Eric Elerick of Cleveland, Josh Elerick of Leetonia, Christopher Klasic and Laura Klasic both of Leetonia, thirteen grandchildren and four great grandchildren, siblings, Sandy Albaugh of Dennison, William Bickerton of Salem, Bruce (Theresa) Bickerton of NC., Deborah (Bob) Blanchard of Homeworth, Paula (Bob) Howe of East Palestine, Patricia (William) Hoffman of Homeworth, Charles Bickerton of Salem. In addition to his parents and step father, he was preceded by a brother Chester Bickerton.
There will be a Celebration of Life Service, Tuesday, 4 PM (Sharp) November 20, 2018 at the Washingtonville VFW. The Salem Honor Guard will be offering military honors in from of the Helicopter outside, followed by a short service by pastor Kari Lankford. The service will then move inside the dining hall where a Memorial meal will be served. He will be entombed in the new columbarium in Grandview Cemetery in Salem. Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.
