Obituary

Robert Jay Dailey 88, of Salem, died at 8:30 AM Tuesday at his home. He was born on September 20, 1925 in St. Clair Township, Ohio, the son of the late Robert H. and Goldie (Hostetter) Dailey. He served in the US Army during World War II, a member of the 82nd Airborne, served in England, Normandy, and Central Europe. He worked at various places, The Farm Bureau and Landmark for 19 years as Machinery manager and service, Sam Brown Dodge for 15 years and then was self-employed for 20 years as an automotive mechanic. He attended a one room school house and then moved to Lower Elkton Road in 1935. Lived on a 100 acre farm and attended the Fairfield School until 1943 when he was drafted. He is survived by his third wife, Mary Vincent Dailey, and preceded in death by his first wife, Grace Pike Dailey and second wife, Dorothy Williams Dailey, a daughter, Beverly Ruble, and a brother Alvah Dailey. He is also survived by his children, Gerald (Sue) Dailey of Salem, Robert Dailey Jr of Alliance, Rick (Celeste) Shifflett of Carrollton, Randy (Tammy) Shifflett of Louisville, Vickie (David) Rice of Louisville, Brad Dailey of Clarkston, Michigan, and Bryan Dailey of Salem, a brother John Earl (Sandy) Dailey of Columbiana, 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Services will be held at the Kingdom Hall in Salem, 3 PM Sunday with the Elder Tom McConnell officiating. The burial will be in Green Haven Cemetery in Canfield, Ohio. The family has requested that in lieu of flowers and food; please donate to Senior Independent Hospice or an organization of the donor's choice.
