Robert Joseph "Baby" Hermes 81, of Salem, passed away at 10:38 AM on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Mercy Health- St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

He was born September 17, 1943, in Youngstown, the son of the late Al and Lucille (Piper) Hermes.

Robert was a 1961 graduate of Ursuline High School. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in March of 1962 serving for 5 years, in that time he had the distinct privilege of being in the Presidential Honor Guard for President's Kennedy and Johnson, he marched in President Kennedy's funeral procession, served as casket guard for General MacArthur, and served guard duty for President Kennedy while in Costa Rica.

Following the military Robert went into the steel manufacturing industry until his retirement. He was Catholic by faith. Later in life he found a great love for visiting antique and craft shows. He enjoyed spending time outside in his vegetable garden, collecting quarters, taking naps, reading books, and late night snacks especially ice cream.

He is survived by his wife, Karen (Staffrey) Hermes, whom he married December 19, 1985, his daughters; Patricia (Joseph) Rotureau, Deborah (Edward) Nelms both of Savanna, Georgia, and Theresa (Michael) Seruch of Sebring, Ohio, sister Patricia (Thomas) Morris, grandchildren; Josh (Becky) and Daniel (Tia) Nelms, James and Kristie Rotureau, and Dante and Donovan Seruch, and his great grandchildren Gavin, Kayson, and Tucker.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings; Beverly Sisek, Nancy Norris, and James Hermes and his grandmother Mabel.

Arrangements were entrusted to the care of the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services of Salem.
