Obituary

Ruth A. Hawkins 89, of Salem, died at 5 pm on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Salem North Healthcare.

She was born on October 16, 1932, in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late Esther Elizabeth Hawkins.

She graduated from high school from the former Emmanuel Bible School in Salem.

She worked for over 50 years as a Paralegal/ Secretary for Atty. Guy Mauro, Atty. Douglas Jenkins, Atty. Bret Apple and Atty. Bruce Williams. She had also served as the secretary for the Salem Country Club

She was a former member of the Salem Pilgrim Church then attended the Home Mission Church in Alliance and the Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church.

She and her sister Elizabeth were known for wearing identical outfits. They both were very active and caring people. Ruth could be counted on to volunteer whenever help was needed. She was a Sunday School teacher, a VBS teacher, on Saturdays, she taught the Sunbeams at the Seneca Street Mission in Alliance. She and her sister Elizabeth would visit and hold church services at Crandall Medical Center and Essex of Salem, and sing at various holiness camp meetings.

Ruth is survived by two special friends that were like sisters to her, Linda Norman and Marsine Stratton and a host of other friends.

In addition to her mother, she was preceded in 2019 by her sister Elizabeth Hawkins.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2021, 11 AM, Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church. The Rev's Stanley Graybil, Herbert Smith, and Sam Gandee will be officiating. The time of visitation will be from 10 to 11 AM at the church.

There will be a private burial taking place on Monday in Hope Cemetery. Donations may be made in Elizabeth's memory to Home Mission c/o 22177 E Alden St. Alliance, OH 44601. The family would like to thank Legacy Christian Home Care from Leetonia, and their staff of caregivers for all the love and compassion given to Ruth and the family. If it had not been for Jackie, Sherri, Dorothy, Donna, and Adrianna, they were wonderful.
