Sandra Lee (fna Jackson) Messimer 66, of Green Twp.,/Salem, died at 11:10 AM Monday, January 15, 2024, following a courageous battle.

Sandy was never afraid of a possible challenge or battle.  When the tones went off, she was there to help and save many lives.  Sandy has now gone on to a place where there is no more pain and suffering.  She will now be a "Guardian Angel" over her family and Green Township Station #35.  She will be a permanent "ride along", each time the ambulance leaves the station on a run.

She was born on June 23, 1957, in Salem, the daughter of the late Lawrence Vernon and Vera Janet (Earl) Jackson SR.

She has been a lifetime area resident and a 1976 graduate of Salem High School. Sandy went on and attained a degree in accounting. She had worked as a press operator at Salem Label. Her EMT history went bask to Gold Cross Ambulance, now EMT and then a dispatcher/Supervisor for KLG until 2018.

Sandy was one of the early members of the Perry Township Fire Department as a Fire Fighter in 1989, then moved on to Green Township in 2002. She and Doug went on to Fire Inspector school in 2005. Her last EMS run with Green Township was in November, 2023.

She loved to travel and going to Gatlinberg, Tenn and all the sights between were very enjoyable to her. Her spare time was spent with the grandchildren and going out in the woods at the lake.

She is survived by her husband Douglas Eugene Messimer, children; Angella Christine (Michael) Hazelbaker and William Lawrence (Stephanie) Jackson all of Salem, siblings; Pamela Zagotti, Lawrence Jackson Jr., Evan (Robin) Jackson, Dennis (Tammy) Jackson and James (Deborah) Jackson all of Salem, sister-in-law, Jodi Jackson of Youngstown, grandchildren; Kellsey Duncan, Sophia and Lilly Hazelbaker all of Salem, Luke Duncan E4, US Navy, and her beloved cat.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, David and Timothy Jackson.

Services will be on Saturday, January 20, 2024, 3 Pm at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem.  The Rev. John Bush will be officiating the services.  The Green Township Volunteer Fire Department, (with the assistance of neighboring fire departments and ambulance companies, under the direction of Chief Todd Baird)  will offer a final tribute to Sandy. A time of viewing (with remembering and sharing stories) from 1 Pm to 3 Pm at the funeral home.  (If you are from a local department or EMS, please wear your uniform in respect of your service.)
