Davidson
July 27, 1920 – April 17, 2014
Shirley Mae Davidson 93, of Columbiana, formerly of Salem, passed
away on Thursday April 17, 2014 following a brief illness. She was born
on July 27, 1920 in Salem, the daughter of the late Charles W. and
Pauline (Schmid) Davidson.
She was a 1938 graduate of Salem High School. After high school, she
worked for a couple of years at the Woolworth's 5 & 10 at the candy
counter. On July 3, 1942, Shirley began working for the EW Bliss
Company in the purchasing department. She worked various secretarial
jobs, and as the telephone operator and as secretary to the assistant
general manager. In 1947 she was promoted to executive secretary to the
general manager, serving under eight general managers. On July 3,
1977 she retired after 35 years with EW Bliss Company.
Shirley was a life long and active member of Holy Trinity English
Lutheran Church, serving in many capacities.
In addition to her work, she served as secretary in most organizations to
which she belonged. Her hobbies included candy-making, baking,
cooking and hosting elegant parties. She enjoyed all kinds of hand crafts,
needlepoint being a favorite. Her thoughtful, generous and caring ways
made her a beloved sister and aunt.
She is survived by her sister Marian Zeigler of Columbiana, nieces and
nephews, Carol (Steve) Humpage of Portland, OR, Joan (Jerry ) Maclin of
St. Paul, MN, William T. Davidson of Nashville, TN, Antoinette (Jim )
Sheen of Phoenix, AZ, Melanie Sheen of Boise, ID, Alan Eckert of
Columbiana, Barbara (Marty) Stampick of Ogden, UT, and Virginia (Gary)
Neville of Columbiana, 9 great nieces and nephews and 6 great-great
nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings,
Charles Davidson and Jane Eckert.
Services will be on Monday, 11 AM in the chapel of Grandview Cemetery
in Salem. The Rev. John Ciardi will be officiating and family will receive
friends one hour prior to the service.
