Virginia C. Smith,91, of Hudson, Ohio, formerly of Salem , died at St. Luke's Lutheran Home at 2:35 PM Tuesday, in N. Canton, Ohio. She was born Feb. 13, 1922 in Johnstown, Pa., a daughter of the late John Wharton and Margaret Myra (Foster) Calhoun. She was a physical therapist at Salem Community Hospital from 1965 to 1980. She was preceded in death on July 14,1984 by her husband Marklin T. Smith whom she married May 28, 1948. She was a World War II U.S. Army Veteran where she attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant. She was a former member of Salem First United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Salem. She served as Worthy Matron and served in many other offices. She was a graduate of Pitt University with a Bachelors degree and a graduate of DT Watson School of Physical Therapy. She is survived by a daughter Anna Jean (Richard) Miller of N. Canton, Oh.; two brothers John (Eileen) Calhoun of Lexington, Oh. and Robert (Joyce) Calhoun of Conn.; and a sister Margaret Bennett of Elmira, N.Y. three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by a daughter Mary Beth Young. Services will be held Friday at 11 AM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Bruce Irwin officiating ,a time of visitation will be held at 10 AM prior to the service with an Eastern Star Service. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park.
