Virginia E Snyder 91, of Salem, passed away on Thursday, September 22, 2016. Miss Virginia "Jinny" Snyder, former school teacher was born in Salem Central Clinic, April 23, 1925. She was the daughter of Columbiana county engineer, the late Charles Orr and Mary E (Finley) Snyder. Miss Snyder was a graduate of Salem High School class of 1943. She was a member of the National Thespian Dramatic Honors Society, active in school clubs, and the first girl to play the drum in the Salem High School Band. Miss Snyder graduated from Grove Hill Collage, Grove City, PA in 1947 with an AB degree in English. Following graduation, Miss Snyder taught in the Elkton Ohio school system and in the Leetonia Ohio high school. In 1949, she taught English and coached tennis in the Anna Head School for Girls in Berkley, CA. She served seven summers at a private summer camp in Wells River, Vermont, coaching tennis and swimming. In 1953, she returned to her hometown to teach English and Physical Education in Salem Junior High School for 27 years. Miss Snyder was chosen as a Martha Holden Jennings Scholar in 1969. She was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Salem War Memorial Building, a member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, a charter member of Salem YMCA, elected honorary member in Theta Alpha Phi National Dramatic Fraternity. She was a Life member of the Salem Historical Society, the Salem and National Humane Society and the First United Methodist Church. In 1975, Miss Snyder retired to her childhood home, the historic "Brennan" House at 1813 E. State St. where she spent her remaining years Services will be held on Wednesday, September 28, 10:30 AM in the chapel at Grandview Cemetery with the Rev. P. Doug George of the church officiating. Burial will be at Grandview Cemetery in Salem. Arrangements were intrusted to the care of Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services in Salem. Memorial contributions may be made in Virginia's memory to the Salem Humane Society, 1825 S.
