Stuart Plues
May 2, 1943 – December 6, 2025
Walter Stuart Plues, 82, of Salem, passed away at 10:10 PM on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Salem Regional Medical Center.
He was born May 2, 1943, in Braddock, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Walter Henry and Emma Alberta (Tregassar) Plues.
Wally attended and graduated from the former Greenford High School in 1962, and briefly attended YSU. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1963-1967. Wally was a Salem City Firefighter and drove the firetruck, among many other responsibilities, dedicating 25 years to the department and retiring in 1995. He also owned and operated his own lawn care and mowing company called S & W Cleaning. He attended Winona Friends Church, he loved the Lord and reading his Bible. Wally was a friendly person with a giving personality; to him there was no such thing as a "stranger". Wally loved the outdoors whether it was hunting, fishing, caring for his property or walking in the woods with his many dogs. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and liked old Chevy cars. Wally appreciated all the time spent with old friends and telling old stories of the good old days. He loved spending time with his beloved wife, children and grandchildren on holidays, birthdays, and especially Sunday football games. He was a dedicated husband, father, and Pap that will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan Elizabeth (Emery) Plues, whom he married on July 6, 1968, his children; Heather (Dennis) Blanton of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, Kimberly (Johnny) Battaglini of Salem, Christin (Jake) Smethers of Rootstown, and Christopher Plues of Canton, his twin sister Kathy (John) Barr of New Hampshire, 7 great grandchildren, and his Cocker Spaniel Patches.
In addition to his parents, Wally was preceded in death by his daughter Amy Hall in 2019, three sisters; Betty Mowery, Sally Blake, and Vivian Davis, and his Springer Spaniel Blaze.
Services will be Saturday, December 20, 2025, 5 PM, at Winona Friends Church (4615 Whinnery Rd. Salem, Ohio 44460) the Salem Honor Guard will render military honors and a celebration of life service will follow at 5:15 PM with Pastor Dan Hepner of the church officiating. Services will conclude with the Salem Fire Department paying final respects to one of their former brothers. A time for visitation will be, at 4 PM, one hour before services at the church. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery, Salem.
