Obituary

William A. Lewis 89, of Salem, died at 11 PM Saturday at Blossom Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on June 16, 1925 in East Liverpool, Ohio, the son of the late William Harrison and Anna Maxine (McConnell) Lewis. He was a 1943 graduate of Chester (Wva) High School, had been employed at the former First National Bank for many years. He was also know when he was working at Cardinal Development, Myers Equipment, Delivering for Charlie Chips, Fenskey News Stand, and a Security officer at Salem Hospital. He served in the US Navy during D Day. He was a former member of the Jaycees, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Salem Lions Club and Salem UCT # 590. He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church and served in the choir. He enjoyed dancing, traveling, golf, bowling and playing cards with the Lions Club. In his younger years he refinished furniture. He is survived by his wife, the former Doris Jean Riley, whom he married on November 26, 1947, his children, W. Jeffery (Belinda Marie Rance) Lewis, Elizabeth Ann (Gary) Guappone and James Riley (Nancy Jean) Lewis all of Salem, 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, siblings, Robert (Janet) Lewis and James Lewis both of East Liverpool. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son Scott, sister Alice Lewis and a grandchild. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, 1 Pm, December 31, at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. The Rev. Keri Lankford will be officiating with burial in Grandview Cemetery. The Salem Honor Guard will be providing the Military Honors at the Cemetery. A time of Visitation will be from 11:30 to 1 Pm on Wednesday. Donations can be made to the Salem Lions Club or the Chester Alumni Association.
