William E. Smalley Sr., 78, of Center Twp, Lisbon, died at 5:19 PM Monday, June 6, 2022, in the emergency room of Salem Regional Medical Center following an apparent heart attack at home.

He was born on February 22, 1944 in Latrobe, Pa., the son of Floyd and Beatrice (Faust) Smalley.

He had retired from NRM as a press operator after many good years of work. He was a veteran of the US Army and served three times over the course of four and a half years in the Vietnam War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Safe Driver Badge with one bar, Good Conduct Medal, Sharp Shooter badge with 45 pistol, Marksman badge on M 60 Machine Gun and departed at the rank of SP5.

Bill had many interests or hobbies over the years. The one big thing he enjoyed most was his family. If one was having a gathering, meal, or something good happening, he would be there. The grandchildren playing sports always had the support of their favorite fan, Grandpa !. He would hardly miss such an opporunity to cheer them on. The playing and restoring cars would probly come in next to the things he enjoyed. The time spent tearing them apart, fixing, restoring, rebuilding, wrenching on the motors to make a fine new running machine. If parts were needed, then where else, off to the swap meets to buy what you don't need and a few things you really do need. When you enter his home, you might just find a minature collection of cars of all kinds and style. One of the things that Bill will be remembered by many was his generous heart. If the family was in need of something, he would be there to do his best to help.

He is survived by his sons; William (Carla Soliday) Smalley Jr. and Robert (Donna Bach) Smalley, siblings; Floyd Jr. and James Smalley, Selva Wade and Violet Marie Obney, grandchildren; Courtney Lee, Abby Lynn and Brock Smalley, Gerald Wayne (III), Kurtis Ryan, Lindsey Michelle Thompson and Katlyn Ann Smalley, great grand children; Alexander Scott and Emmalynn Lee Soliday, Raelene Lynn Carter, Nadene Marie Skye Palmer, Talyn Michael Bennett, Adelaide Jean, Ariellia Rae, Avianna Darlene and Ainsley Lynn Thompson.

Services will be held on Friday, June 10, 1 PM at the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services, Salem. He will receive military honors and be entombed at Highland Memorial Park in Beloit, Ohio.

A time of visitation will be one hour prior the services at the funeral home.
