Obituary

Donald Keith Turner 80, of Salem, died in his home on November 3, 2025.

He was born May 15, 1945, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Calvin L. and Della Mae (Ernerson) Turner.

Don was a graduate of Brownsville High School, where he played basketball. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry from California State University in Pennsylvania. Don enjoyed working on cars in his free time and cooking Spanish rice, which was one of his favorite dishes. He also loved visiting the Rogers Flea Market & Auctions in Rogers, Ohio. Don could be found reading chemistry books and broadening his knowledge on his favorite subject. He was a very special teacher at Salem High School, where he worked at for many years, his understanding of science allowed him to be chosen as the head of the science department. Don knew his subject well and made it fun for his students to learn. In 1986 the yearbook staff dedicated him as teacher of the year. Don would spend his summers lecturing and sharing his vast knowledge with college students at Kent State University-Salem. Don was a very kindhearted, soft spoken kind of person and was very well liked and well respected by his collegues and students.

He is survived by his sisters Nancy Joy Bauer and Nadine Sue Turner both of Hiller, Pennsylvania.

In addition to his parents, Don was preceded in death on August 4, 2015, by his wife Susan (Zigler) Turner, his brother Calvin Turner Jr. and sister Mollie Turner.

Arrangements were made by the Arbaugh-Pearce-Greenisen & Sons Funeral and Cremation Services of Salem.
