American Veteran 01

Frank Telford Gibson

February 20, 1933 ~ April 12, 2021 (age 88)

Obituary

Frank Telford Gibson  88, of Salem, died late Monday morning, April 12, 2021, at his home.
He was born on February 20, 1933, in East Palestine, Ohio, son of the late Lawrence Gibson and Esther (Whitehill) Gibson-Scattergood.
Frank was a lifetime area resident and retired in 1998 from the Chrysler Corporation in Twinsburg as an inspector.

Frank was a very proud veteran, stood strong for his country and his flag when he served three years as a U.S. Marine during the Korean War. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Korean Service Medal with a Star, and United Nations Service Medal.

He enjoyed the company and socializing of local folks and veterans at the Salem Eagles and VFW Post 892.  Frank was the one there telling the stories or sharing a good joke.  When it came to politics, he stood firm in his beliefs.  His friends and family who knew him well would agree that he was a stubborn Democrat.  He did enjoy football and cheered on the Pittsburgh Steelers over the other teams. On a quieter note, evenings were often ended with some evening TV programs or a good crossword puzzle.
In his younger years, the family enjoyed going out for a nice picnic together.  He and Dorothy attended the Southeast Friends Church and participated in the activities of the church until her passing. He was also a former member of the Autoworkers union.
He is survived by his children; Connie Lou (Lewis) Morris, Penny Jo (Terry) Jackson both of Salem, Tammy Jane Reno of Lisbon, Danny Craig (Rose) Reno of Salem, and Kenneth Ray (Melissa) Gibson of CA., twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, the former Dorothy J. McKenzie on June 5, 2000, son John Robert Gibson (at 7 years of age), and brother Robert Gibson.
