James Thomas Sawhill 85, of Petersburg, died at 9:54 PM Thursday, November 10, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Hospital/Mercy Medical, Youngstown.
He was born on November 5, 1937, in Mansfield, Ohio, the son of the late Elmer and L. Elaine (Coon) Sawhill.
Jim was a meat cutter from a very young age back in Galion, Ohio. He continued to sharpen his skills and other kitchen talents while he served in the US Army. He had been employed by the Nemenz Family in their meat department for all the area stores until 1996.
Jim loved his horses, raising them, and trail riding over the years. He was a crafty sort, liked to tinker with painting and other art type projects. He also had interests in guns, for hunting as well as out target practicing. It was not uncommon to find him on Fridays trolling around Roger’s Sale for a good deal. Jim enjoyed sharing his experiences in life thru some of the most wonderful and funny stories. He had enjoyed fishing when he was younger in the area. He was currently attending Abundant Life Fellowship in New Waterford.
The family will always have fond memories of those dinners he would prepare and spending time at the former Ponderosa Park.
