Kay Holmberg Obituary

Kay Loraine (Ling) Holmberg, a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many, passed away unexpectedly on February 20, 2024, in Salem, Ohio.

She was born on May 29, 1946, in Spencer, Iowa to the late Frederick W. and Susan J. (Staats) Ling.

Kay graduated from high school in Sheldon, Iowa before pursuing a degree in Archeology. Later she returned to school at the Assembly of God Seminary School in Missouri where she served alongside David Wilkerson spreading the word of Jesus Christ. She married young and began her family having six children. For most of her life, she worked as a health aid in homes for those with disabilities where the residents easily stole her heart.

Her life was marked by an adventurous spirit that led her to travel extensively across the country, from living in New York City as a nanny to taking family trips with her daughter Sissy, especially enjoying their time together in Florida. She enjoyed site seeing different locations and bringing her grandchildren along to learn, especially to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota. She enjoyed Jackpot Junction with her brothers Donald Ling and Satoshi Morimoto and visiting the rest of the family. Kay was an avid sports fan throughout her life, she never missed watching a game, especially a Chicago Bears game, even if it meant catching up through recordings or live broadcasts online. She cherished attending Minnesota Twins games with her sister Mary Dunn, and after moving to Salem, she continued this tradition with enthusiasm, taking pleasure not only for herself but also sharing these moments with grandchildren and great grandchildren, who brought immense joy into every aspect of Kay's life. Her pride lay within witnessing each grandchild excel whether it be football, baseball, and wrestling matches particularly relishing watching "baby" Kay'lee play volleyball and cheer. For thirty-three years, Kay lived alongside daughter Sissy's family offering unwavering support while helping raise the children while Sissy took care of Kay and her health.

She is survived by her daughter Susan Stanton and son Jim (Sue Ellen) Holmberg, her siblings Patricia (Butch) Dunnick and Satoshi Morimoto; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Ana (Erik Zamora) and Kay'lee Rocha; Lisa (Chris) Spidel, Micah Holmberg, Noah Holmberg, Aiden Holmberg; Travis Stanton, Brittany Stanton, Nick Stanton; Desirae (Alex) Kukert ; Lincy Smith, Jacob Smith, and Isaiah Smith. She also leaves behind nieces and nephews: Tony Dunnick, Isaac Dunnick; Barb Daffner; Marsha Dunn, and Carmelita Arana-Cifuentes.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sons Kenny and Kevin Christenson, daughter Alis M. Rocha (died February 28, 2024), her brothers Doug and Donald Ling, sister Mary Dunn, nephew Fred Dunnick, and her ex-husbands Bruce Christenson and James M. Holmberg.

In remembrance of Kay Loraine Holmberg's remarkable journey through life, may we find solace knowing that she has left a remarkable impression upon our hearts to last a lifetime. Forevermore, may you rest peacefully now reunited once again with your daughter Sissy and family watching over us all. Until we meet again someday…
