Michael Dennison Obituary

Michael R. Dennison, 29, of Salem, died Tuesday morning, February 6, 2024, at his family home.

He was born on August 11, 1994, in Alliance, Ohio, the son of Richard E. Dennison SR and the late Doris “DJ” (Ling) Dennison.

He was a proud lifetime resident of Salem and a 2012 graduate of Salem High School.

“Let’s Go Cubs!” He and the family were big Chicago Cubs fans! He also followed the West Virginia Mountaineers, Boston Celtics, and Arizona Cardinals. Michael enjoyed all aspects of sports, including following the stats, player trades, and making a few bucks off his knowledge. When he was younger he played football and baseball. The family’s involvement in Special Olympics inspired him to become an umpire for softball and a basketball referee for the Special Olympics.

Michael was always around family and friends somewhere. To clear his mind, he would sometimes go off for long walks or drives. Michael was always excited about a last minute adventure, whether it was a night out, or a trip to New York, Chicago or Boston on a whim. He loved big cities, but knew Salem was his forever home. He loved to enjoy food with friends and family, whether that be eating wings from many favorite places or getting a Lou Malnati’s pizza made fresh in Chicago!

Michael had so much love, and took pride in helping and supporting his friends, as well as random acts of kindness to strangers. There wasn’t anything too large or small to ask, he would give of himself and his time to help the people that he loved or make someone’s day a little brighter. He was always the first one to make someone smile and feel comfortable, even in the hardest of times. He found a way to connect with those he didn’t know and quickly became friends.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his loyal life partner, Karli Utt, siblings; James & Jennifer Ling, Rachel Dennison and Justin Dennison, all of Salem, Paternal grandmother, Ruthann (Richards) Dennison, aunts and uncles; Sarah Nelson, James and George (Patricia) Ling, Danny, Fred and John (Teresa) Dennison, Joyce (Greg) Shelosky and Jennie (Craig) Harold, Gayle (Mayhugh) Ling, two honorary aunts, Suzanne Mehno and Anne Smith, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, including one as close as a brother, Jason Dennison, and his Godson Miles Hovanic.

He was preceded in death by his mother Doris, in 2020, brother, Richard JR in 2023, maternal grandparents, George and Doris (Colbert) Ling, his paternal grandfather Roger Dennison, his “Uncle Pap,” Dwight Nelson.
