Rev. Edwin Leon Manners, 74, of Damascus, OH, closed his eyes here on earth and opened them in the presence of his precious Lord and Savior at 10:56 AM on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at St. Elizabeth-Mercy Health in Boardman, Ohio, following COVID.
He was born on June 15, 1946, in Cincinnati, OH, the son of the late Ralph and Margaret (Burkey) Manners. Edwin recently celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his loving wife, Diane (Ward) Manners, whom he married on August 29, 1970.
Edwin was a very logical minded person and was known as a problem solver. This gift aided him well over the years in various areas of employment. He was a bookkeeper and Assistant Business Manager at Allegheny Wesleyan College for 19 ½ years as well as preparing income tax for individuals for 37 years. Edwin was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening, but his greatest passion was in the service of his Lord in full-time ministry.
Edwin attended Kansas City Bible College from 1964-1970, receiving a BA degree in 1969 and a BTh degree in 1970. He was received as a Conference Preacher by recommendation of the Wolf Summit AWM Church on June 14, 1969, Ordained on June 16, 1974. He then pastored at the following churches; Keepville AWM Church, Jamestown AWM Church, Ashtabula AWM Church, Akron Maple Valley AWM Church, Middlefield AWM Church. He also served as a Conference Evangelist for the Allegheny Wesleyan Methodist Conference, and an educator for the Allegheny Wesleyan College. Edwin was an active member and Sunday School Teacher of the Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church in Salem, OH.
Along with his wife, Edwin is survived by 3 sons; Reverend Byron (Melissa Lehman) Manners of Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Kevin (Audre Mallinak) Manners of Copley, OH, and Rodney (Martha Quesenberry) Manners of Salem, OH, a sister Barbara (Norman) Black of Butler, Missouri, and a grandson, Christopher.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Eldon in 1994.
A time of visitation will be at the Salem Wesleyan Methodist Church, {1095 New Garden Ave., Salem, OH} Thursday, Nov. 12, 4 pm-7 pm and Friday, Nov. 13, from 9:30, am-10:30 am.
Masks will be required to be worn, and social distancing must be maintained at the church.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 am Friday at the church. The Rev. Stanley Graybil of the church will be officiating. A graveside committal service will be held at 3:30 PM Friday at the Zion Cemetery in Stoneboro, PA, where Edwin will be laid to rest.
